Children’s Message

Dear friends,
How was your Christmas?
What was your favorite gift?
Today we end the Christmas season with a special Sunday called Epiphany.
Epiphany means God’s Secret is shown to us.
And today, God’s Secret is shown through three gifts:
The gifts the three wise men brought to baby Jesus.
Each gift had a meaning.
Each gift had a purpose.
1. Gold
Let’s start with gold.
Gold is like money.
It helps people get what they need, a home, food, clothes.
This gift reminds us that God takes care of us, just like God took care of Mary and Joseph as they cared for baby Jesus.
We give gifts like gold to God, too, in our offering each Sunday.
2. Myrrh
Now let’s look at myrrh.
Myrrh is like medicine.
It was used to help people heal.
Myrrh reminds us that God helps us when we hurt in our bodies and in our hearts.
Our love for God and for each other can feel like medicine too.
That love is a gift we give to one another.
3. Frankincense
And the last gift is frankincense.
Frankincense is used in worship.
It makes a sweet smell that helps people remember God is near.
Frankincense reminds us that Jesus is special.
It reminds us that every breath we take is a gift from God.
God is with us, around us, and within us.
We carry that gift with us each day.
Three Gifts. Three Meanings. Three Purposes.
Gold – Money: God provides.
Myrrh – Medicine: God heals.
Frankincense – Breath: God is with us.
Repeat‑After‑Me Prayer (Three Gifts)
Dear God,
Thank you for Jesus.
Thank you for the Wise Men.
Thank you for the gift of gold,
that reminds us you provide.
Thank you for the gift of myrrh,
that reminds us you heal.
Thank you for the gift of frankincense,
that reminds us you are near.
Lastly, we give thanks to YOU, O God, for each other.
that reminds us your love.
Amen.
