This is a favorite story of mine.
It's about someone in the Bible who was young.
And God called him to do something loving and important.
His name was Jeremiah.
One day, God said to Jeremiah,
"I choose you. I have a job for you."
But Jeremiah said,
"God… I’m too young. I don’t know how to do this."
Do you know what God said?
"Don’t say you’re too young.
I will be with you.
I will give you the words.
I will help you."
God didn’t wait for Jeremiah to feel brave.
God didn’t wait for him to feel perfect.
God just promised to be with him.
Jeremiah still felt unsure… but God gifted him
Jeremiah still felt nervous.
He still wondered if he could do it.
But he said yes to God anyway.
And guess what?
God helped him.
God gave him courage.
God gave him words.
And Jeremiah did amazing things—even when it wasn’t easy.
That’s Jeremiah’s call story.
God also calls kids, each of you, to do something loving and important each day.
Sit with someone who feels alone
Say something kind
Help someone who is sad
Tell the truth
Stand up for someone who is being hurt
And you might think,
‘I’m too young.’
‘I don’t know how.’
But God says to you the same thing God said to Jeremiah:
"I am with you.”
Jeremiah’s call story teaches us this:
You don’t have to feel ready for God to use you.
You just have to say yes.
Hold your hand over your heart.
When you feel something inside that says,
"Do the loving and important thing,"
that’s God calling you—just like Jeremiah.
Closing prayer
Dear God,
Thank you for calling Jeremiah when he was young.
Thank you for calling us too.
Give us courage when we feel small,
and help us say yes to your love.
Amen.
